Dan Thomas
Dan Thomas (Danny-T.co.uk) first encountered Flash at the end of Flash 3 / rise of Flash 4. First seeing a smooth vector animation of a spinning star and then the realisation that the file size of said star was less than the static jpg equivalent… AMAZING! :P At that point Dan was working at the tender age of 17 for a large E-learning provider on Flash based E-learning projects for clients such as BBC, Cable and Wireless, Canon and Dell.Several years on, after studying various technologies both academically and commercially, Dan has maintained his passion for web technologies particularly the now massive Flash Platform. He now runs Moov2 Ltd, a web development consultancy based in Bournemouth. In recent times Moov2 are investing a lot of time and effort into creating online applications based on the Flash platform particularly Flex and the recent release of Adobe AIR.
Session:
Like myself, I'm sure many people hear all the terms and have all the best intentions of looking into and following these great new ideals, techniques, tools and processes but realise weeks later they've been too busy doing real work and still haven't gotten around to it. The talk is aimed at those who are not already following these practices but are keen to know what all the fuss is about. The overall aim of the talk is to take these concepts and ideals that are thrown around the community as "Must-dos" and firstly, impart an understanding of what each is and then explain their merits and drawbacks and when/when not to implement. Also I'd like to provide enough info for anyone to take their first-steps in the mentioned practices without feeling overwhelmed by everything there is to learn. Talk will briefly cover:
- OOP best practices
- Design Patterns
- Frameworks
- Source control
- Unit testing
- Working with server-side technologies (Web services, Remoting etc)
